Kevin Black has been part of some of the maritime charting world’s biggest transitions — from paper chart production to S-57 ENCs, and now deeply involved in the shift to S-100. With hands-on experience in a range of hydrographic production systems (in different Hydrographic Offices), long-standing involvement in IHO working groups, and a strong focus on international standards, he brings a practical, system-level perspective on what it takes to deliver meaningful change across the industry.
Kevin’s current focus is on the evolving role of RENCs (Regional ENC Coordinating Centres) in the S-100 era — this is supported by his work at PRIMAR as it transitions beyond traditional ENC validation and distribution, towards enabling a broader portfolio of products and services with expanded responsibilities in quality assurance, interoperability, and integrated data delivery.
